Year : 2007
Language : Malayalam
Country : India
Director : Adoor Gopalkrishnan
The film distills to a rare purity four tales of village women in south India. Their titles are elemental: The Prostitute, The Virgin, The Housewife and The Spinster. In each, a woman submits to a role society decides for her. Each role offers a paradox of freedom and bondage in nearly equal measure.

Hi,
Was wondering if it would be possible for me to send in a short film to you guys for a review.
Ashim Ahluwalia’s documentary, JOHN & JANE, is finally releasing on DVD in India by Enlighten Home Library this month. JOHN & JANE follows the stories of six agents that answer American 1-800 numbers in a Mumbai call center. The film shot on 35 mm, with its brooding ambient electronic soundtrack, stretches the genre of documentary into something resembling science fiction.
The film was premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2005 and Canada’s largest daily newspaper, The Toronto Star, described it as the “No. 1 pick” at the festival. In 2006, JOHN & JANE showed at the Berlin International Film Festival and New Directors / New Films in New York. It has also screened at other festivals such as Edinburgh, Vancouver, Cinema Du Reel, Jeonju and Durban.
